Story
Xiao Chen was born in 2023 in a rural area of Xinjiang. Shortly after birth, doctors diagnosed him with an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a congenital heart condition where there is a hole in the wall between the heart's upper chambers. This condition prevented proper blood flow and put significant strain on his developing heart.
His family, facing financial hardship in their remote village, struggled to afford the necessary medical treatment. The surgery required specialized care at Shanghai Yida Hospital, far from their home.
Heart to Heart raised ¥30,000 to cover Xiao Chen's surgery costs. The procedure was successfully completed on June 3, 2025, and Xiao Chen is now recovering well. His caregivers share that he is becoming stronger each day, with steady improvements in breathing and energy levels.
Xiao Chen's case represents the critical importance of early intervention for congenital heart defects. With timely treatment, children like Xiao Chen can grow up to lead completely normal, healthy lives.
Impact
This successful surgery has given Xiao Chen the chance to grow up without the limitations that would have otherwise defined his childhood. His family's gratitude extends to every member of the YK Pao School community who contributed to making this life-saving intervention possible.
